Jeet Kune Do & Martial Arts

William Holland's Background

Sifu William Holland began his training the Martial and Fighting Arts in 1962 under the tutelage of his Father Jack who was a Professional Boxer. Growing up in the Gang infested streets of Southern California, Holland found out early and often the meaning of Truth in Combat. From age 8 on, he was witness to many fights involving gangs, knives, chains, clubs and even guns.

In 1967 he began studying Kenpo Karate and continued his search for Fighting Reality by studying Kung Fu San Soo, Shito Ryu, Hapkido, Tae Kwon Do, Shaolin Kung Fu, Wing Chun, Hung Gar, Jiu Jitsu, Kali & Kickboxing.

But it was not until 1976 when he was introduced to Jeet Kune Do by Abel Sandoval that he felt he had found a method of training that was real and ideal for the streets.

He has been studying Jeet Kune do ever since. Although he started teaching for Abel in 1978, Sifu Holland continues his search for Combat Truth by studying with as many top notch fighters as he can. He has to date studied privately, in groups and at seminars with eleven (11) of Bruce Lee's original students including:

 Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do

Bruce Lee, was one of the most innovative, creative and progressive Martial Artist in history. His wisdom and teaching are used extensively to this day, over 30 years since his death as benchmark for fighting efficiency and skill.

At Tactix, we emphasize four primary eras of Jeet Kune Do development:

Seattle Era - Primarily Wing Chun

Oakland Era - Jun Fan Gung Fu    More emphasis on footwork and aliveness. Western Boxing basics and Northern Shaolin Kicks.

L.A. Chinatown Era - Emphasis on Individual expression and efficiency.  Development and Implementation of Broken Rhythm, The Ways of Attack, Simplicity & Directness, the addition of Ground Fighting, Savant, Fencing, and much more Western Boxing and Kickboxing.

Contemporary Era - Bruce was not finished with the development of his art. In fact, Jeet Kune Do is and always will be in a constant state of refinement and in search of what works best. JKD is different for each individual based on their physical and mental strengths and weaknesses as well as the circumstances in which they will train and use the art. As such JKD is in a continual mode of honing and discovery.

At Tactix, we also focus on developing the whole of the artist:

TECHNICAL SKILL DEVELOPMENT (Doing everything precisely)

ATTRIBUTE TRAINING (Improving Speed, Power, Balance etc)

REALITY IN COMBAT (Training for Actual Street Situation)

TACTICAL APPLICATION (the when why where, not just the how)
